Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

Prompt Response: The aspect of poem creation that I enjoy the most has to be weaving symbolism into my diction and rhymes. By utilizing certain subjects, you can invoke certain universal images that portray something meaningful and symbolic. For example, using a bird would symbolize freedom and escapism, which you can use to display a variety of scenarios among other depictions that add a lot to your poem. I also enjoyed simply choosing a theme, as there was so much to consider and so much possibility around many of the examples. Overall, I think poem creation is a rather fun process, albeit a slow one at that (at least for me).

Summary: Today, we read over a slideshow centered around figurative language and then began to work on our poems.

Reflection: I believe I made fairly good progress on my poem today, having completed twenty out of the thirty lines required. I may have to rewrite the first stanza though, as I don't believe it flows as naturally as it should.

Use a hyperbole, an understatement, and a litotes to describe today's lesson.

As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?
