Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt: Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response: One thing that I somewhat believed in as a child was something called the elf on the shelf. This tradition revolved around a plush doll or figure that looked like an elf (if you would believe it) that mysteriously moved around the house every day during December. Me and my brother would get up every day to see where the elf moved, and after we opened up the advent calendar for some candy. The funny thing was that sometimes my parents forgot to move it, and so they would come up with excuses for why the elf didn't move. It was also said that if you touched the elf it would lose its magic, which has caused me and by brother to cry if we accidentally touched it. All in all, the tradition was good fun, and it is a funny thing to look back on near the holidays.

Summary: Today we took some time to review our assignment from last Friday and start a new assignment based on our new vocabulary.

Reflection: I actually knew or could make an educated guess about most of the vocabulary words we learned today. I think that my favorite word to use or simply know has to be beguile, just because I like the way it flows linguistically.

Use a hyperbole, an understatement, and a litotes to describe today's lesson.

As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?
