Prompt: Words shape how we think, write, and interpret literature. Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

Prompt Response: One term that has helped me better understand literature as a whole is "figurative language." I'm not sure when I first came across this term, but it was probably quite a while ago in my educational journey. I think that by comprehending what it meant and all that encompasses it, I was able to really see how creative writing and language can be. By using words in unconventional ways, you can invoke very distinct and unique effects in your audience, which is key in conveying ideas effectively while avoiding sounding monotonous.

Summary: Today we learned about our new vocabulary words and did an exercise about it.

Reflection: I found the words that we learned today to be half new and half old. I think that my favorite word is ubiquitous as I like the way it sounds.

As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?
