Prompt: People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

Prompt Response: One time where I really needed to distance myself was in sophomore year's tabletop club. This was my first time really getting involved with an after school activity and so I was thoroughly disappointed when my group members started acting... weird. The leader of my group had blatant favorites and would cater towards them while ignoring the rest of us. One other member was very loud and was outright rude to many of us. One time in particular this individual even straight out  called people ugly, ranking everyone in the group based on how attractive they thought everyone was. After a while I dreaded going to that club and eventually I just had to take a break. I really thought about how not normal it was and after a while I decided to stop going entirely.

Summary: Today in class we read chapter one of "Into the Wild" and answered questions about it..

Reflection: I really do believe that McCandless did not know what he was doing and was in fact acting on some sort of arrogance or pride. I feel somewhat bad for him as I'm sure he suffered greatly before he finally died.

Use a hyperbole, an understatement, and a litotes to describe today's lesson.

As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?
